Buttons on sale

I know at least one ardent First Night supporter who has a button - Mayor Menino.  He bought it yesterday at Shaw's (that' right, even the Mayor's not on the guest list for First Night, because he KNOWS how much we need that button revenue.  There were lots of TV cameras there, so you might have seen coverage on WBZ-TV (our television sponsor) or channels 5, 7, 25 and Univision.  You may have also heard me on WBUR or WBZ-TV, as I had my usual day-after-Thanksgiving 15 minutes of fame yesterday.  (Here's the WBZ radio segment: http://wbz.com/topic/play_window.php?audioType=Episode&audioId=3132617).

There's also a great article by Brian MacQuarrie in today's Boston Globe about the state of First Night in the midst of this economic downturn we are in. You can see that here: http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2008/11/29/first_night_organizers_working_at_full_speed/.

Welcome to First Night 2009 Website!

Welcome to the new First Night 2009 website. We are really excited about this year's festival. We have a ton of new and interesting events and features for the site that I will explain a bit more in a minute but I do want to point out one of my favorite new pieces, the art of the First Night 2009 button designer, Rachel Maguire. You can check out more of Rachel's work at her site and find out a little bit more about her in the Button Artist section. We have also made it a bit easier to see all of the great programming we have. If you know what you are looking for, you can search by category or artist or you can just browse by where the performance is taking place; FedEx Family Festival, the other afternoon programming, the Metro Boston Grand Procession, the Evening Programming and of course the Countdowns to Midnight and Firework shows. Oh and don't forget all of the outdoor programming including all of the awesome ice sculptures!

There is a lot to see and even more to do but we can help you with that. Check back in the next few days and we will be launching our interactive itinerary tool. This will help you plan out your day and make sure you can catch all that there is to see at First Night.

If you have any questions, let us know. We are here to help!

Enjoy First Night. Have Fun. And remember, Your Year Starts Here!
